Purpose:

To help disseminate awareness and generate quality discourse about children with disability, and to provide support to parents and teachers of such children.

Target Audience:

Parents and teachers of children with disability, academics, clinical psychologists.

Rit Foundation organized on Saturday, June 30, 2012, a conference and cultural programme for the disabled. The first leg of the programme comprised speeches by experts from the fields of psychology who addressed parents of disabled children about how they should deal with their own emotions as well as the child. The resource persons included Dr. Prashant Tripathi, a renowned sociologist who is Chairperson of the Sociology Department at VSSD College, Kanpur University;; Dr. Shefali Mishra, an associate professor at Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University; Dr. Malini Srivastava, a professor and counselor at HIHT, Dehradun, whose work in the field of disabled rehabilitation has been recognized at the national level and Ms. Meenu who is a PGT of psychology at a reputed school in Delhi and has participated in and designed several workshops and curricula. Hearing them speak was a most enlightening experience for the parents.

Following this, special children from Aanchal School performed, defying all stereotypes about them. Other students from Chuckkle Kids and Kalinga Dance Academy performed later.

In the vote of thanks, Ms. Chitra, Chairperson, Rit Foundation, thanked the resource persons for taking time out for the programme and the parents for their interest.

Mrs. Urmila Malavaliya, Councilor, MCD, graced the event as the chief guest and Sugandha Taneja, President, Mahila Morcha, was the guest of honor.

The programme was a huge success and served its purpose well.
